Installation
Our bespoke cabinetry has been thoughtfully engineered to maximise storage, simplify installation and achieve the finest possible finished result. To ensure your furniture performs exactly as intended, we ask that installation is completed in accordance with the recommendations contained within this guide.
To maintain the validity of our 10-Year Craftsmanship Guarantee, the cabinetry must be installed in accordance with the recommendations contained within this Installation Guide and accepted good trade practice.
Failure to follow these installation recommendations, or damage arising from incorrect installation, plumbing or fitting, may invalidate the guarantee where the issue is attributable to the installation rather than the manufacture of the cabinetry.
If you are unsure about any aspect of the installation, please contact us before commencing work. Our team will be happy to provide guidance to help ensure the best possible outcome.
Technical Drawings
Technical Drawings
As all of our bespoke vanity units are available in a wide range of widths, heights, depths and basin configurations, there are thousands of possible variations. For this reason, we are unable to provide individual technical drawings for every product configuration.
Instead, our cabinetry has been thoughtfully engineered to make installation and plumbing as straightforward as possible. By following the recommended installation advice provided throughout this guide, the vast majority of installations can be completed with ease.
Recommended Pipe Positions
Recommended Pipe Positions
Waste Pipe Outlet
To ensure the basin waste is concealed neatly within the cabinetry, particularly on designs featuring open shelving, we recommend positioning the centre of the waste outlet at the following heights above Finished Floor Level (FFL):
Countertop basin vanity units (excluding The Littleton, The Toddington & The Henley) = 450mm FFL
Undermounted basin vanity units (excluding The Toddington & The Henley) = 550mm FFL
The Littleton, The Toddington & The Henley (with countertop basin)* = 600mm FFL
The Toddington & The Henley (with undermount basin*) = 700mm FFL
*The basin waste may remain partially visible beneath The Littleton, The Toddington & The Henley due to the design of the open shelving. We therefore recommend selecting a decorative basin waste to achieve the best aesthetic finish.
Countertop mounted taps
If countertop mounted taps are being specified, the recommended heights shown above can also be used as a guide for positioning the hot and cold water feeds.
Waste Traps
Waste Traps
We advise installing 32mm P trap (s) or bottle trap waste as this generally provides the greatest clearance for the w100mm waste cut outs in our drawers. That said, every installation is unique and your installer should always determine the most appropriate plumbing arrangement for your installation.
Position of Basin Centre(s)
Position of Basin Centre(s)
Single Basin Vanity Units
The basin is positioned centrally across the width of single basin vanity units (left to right).
Double Basin Vanity Units
The basin centre dimensions vary depending on the design and size of the vanity unit. They are provided within the relevant product listing in our online shop and in the downloadable technical guide below.
Securing Basins, Countertops & Upstands
Securing Basins, Countertops & Upstands
To ensure the best possible installation and long term performance of your bespoke cabinetry, we recommend the following consumables:
- CT1 Adhesive & Sealant ~ Recommended for securing our under mounted basins to the underside of the counter top. Due to normal manufacturing tolerances between basin manufacturers, some basins may require minor packing or shimming during installation to achieve the correct position and a consistent adhesive bed.
- Sanitary Grade Silicone Sealant ~ We recommend applying a high quality sanitary silicone sealant to all appropriate junctions, including between the counter top and cabinetry, around counter top basins, and between the upstand and the countertop or wall where fitted. This helps create a neat, watertight finish and protects the cabinetry from moisture ingress.
Important – Natural Marble Installations
When installing natural marble counter tops or basins, we strongly recommend using clear, non staining adhesives and clear sanitary silicone sealants wherever they may come into contact with the stone.
As natural marble is a porous material, coloured or opaque adhesives and sealants may penetrate or become visible through the stone, potentially causing permanent discolouration or shadowing. Always use products that are suitable for natural stone and follow the adhesive and sealant manufacturer's installation recommendations.
Important – Fixing Undermount Basins
When securing an undermount basin to the underside of the countertop, care should be taken not to apply excessive clamping pressure whilst the adhesive cures.
Over tightening clamps can place unnecessary stress on the countertop and may result in cracking or damage, particularly with natural marble, which is inherently more delicate than engineered stone. Clamps should only be tightened sufficiently to hold the basin securely in position until the adhesive has fully cured, in accordance with the adhesive manufacturer's recommendations.
Wall Mounted Taps
Wall Mounted Taps
Where wall-mounted taps are specified, as a broad rule, we recommend positioning the centre of the tap outlet at the following approximate heights:
- Undermount basin units: h150mm above the finished counter top.
- Countertop basin units: h100mm above the top edge of the basin.
These dimensions are intended as a guide to achieve a comfortable operating height and an attractive finished appearance. We recommend that your chosen tap, basin and vanity unit are all considered together before completing first fix plumbing.
Upstand Height Recommendations for Wall Mounted Taps
If you are choosing wall~mounted taps and plan to fix these into an upstand, we generally recommend the following upstand heights:
- Undermount basin units: h250mm upstand*
- Countertop basin units: h350mm upstand*
*The recommended upstand heights stated above already include an allowance of approximately 30mm for decorative edge profiles, such as Dupont, Ogee, Triple Pencil and Bullnose. decorative moulding, the recommended upstand height can typically be reduced by approximately 50mm.
Our decorative profiled upstands are 30mm thick, whilst our Aris profiled upstands are 20mm thick. When selecting wall-mounted taps, please ensure the tap is suitable for installation through the chosen upstand thickness and has sufficient fixing depth to allow for secure installation.
Your installer should always determine the most appropriate tap position to ensure the water flow is correctly aligned with the basin and provides comfortable day-to-day use.
When finalising your specification, the tap design, spout projection and drop, basin dimensions, vanity unit dimensions and the manufacturer's installation requirements should all be considered together before first fix plumbing is completed.
Pre-Drilled Tap Holes in Upstands
If selected when placing your order, we are happy to pre-drill tap holes in your upstand, ready for the installation of wall-mounted taps.
If your wall-mounted taps have already been installed, please provide us with the tap manufacturer's specificationtogether with the finished floor level (FFL) to the centre of each tap outlet. We will use this information to position the holes in the upstand so that they align as accurately as possible with your existing plumbing.
If your wall-mounted taps have not yet been installed, simply let us know your preferred tap centre height above Finished Floor Level (FFL) when placing your order. We will manufacture the upstand accordingly, allowing your installer to complete the first fix plumbing to suit.
As every installation is bespoke, it is the customer's responsibility to ensure that all dimensions supplied are accurate. We strongly recommend checking all measurements before manufacture commences, as pre-drilled tap holes cannot be altered once the countertop has been manufactured.
Service Voids
Service Voids
Every vanity unit is designed with a service void at the rear of the cabinetry to accommodate standard pipework when fitted tightly against the wall.
For vanity units fitted with a countertop basin, the top drawer is supplied with a 100mm wide U-shaped waste cut-out as standard, allowing the basin waste pipework to pass through whilst retaining the maximum possible usable drawer space.
For vanity units fitted with an undermount basin, the top drawer is designed either as a false drawer front or, on selected models, as a shallow functional drawer. This provides ample space for the basin and plumbing whilst retaining as much practical storage as possible within the cabinetry.
Anchoring Your Vanity Unit
Anchoring Your Vanity Unit
We recommend securing all floor standing vanity units to the wall using suitable 90° angle brackets together with a suitable high strength grab adhesive where appropriate.
To achieve the neatest finish, we recommend fitting the skirting boards after the vanity unit has been positioned, levelled, secured and fitted tightly against the wall.
Wall Hung Vanity Units
Wall Hung Vanity Units
Our wall-hung cabinetry is supplied with a French cleat hanging system, comprising two interlocking components. One section is factory fitted to the rear of the cabinetry, whilst the corresponding section should be securely fixed to the wall.
The purpose of the French cleat is to safely support and position the cabinetry during installation, allowing it to be accurately levelled while the permanent fixings are installed. The French cleat is not intended to be the sole means of permanently securing the cabinetry to the wall.
The wall-mounted cleat should be installed using a minimum of four suitable fixings, appropriate for the wall construction, ensuring it is securely anchored into solid masonry or structural timber studwork.
Once the cabinetry has been hung on the French cleat, it must be permanently secured to the wall by fixing through our reinforced internal L-brackets using suitable fixings and washers appropriate for the wall construction. These fixings should be installed into solid masonry or structural timber studwork to ensure the cabinetry is safely and adequately supported.
It is the installer's responsibility to ensure that the wall construction is suitable and that all fixings are appropriate for supporting the combined weight of the cabinetry, countertop, basin, fittings and anticipated day to day loading.
Counter Top Sealants
Counter Top Sealants
If your vanity unit is supplied with a natural marble countertop, it should be sealed with a high quality sealant specifically designed for natural stone before use. As marble is a naturally porous material, sealing helps protect the surface against moisture, staining and everyday bathroom products. We also recommend resealing the surface periodically in accordance with the sealer manufacturer's instructions to maintain its protection.
If your furniture is supplied with a quartz counter top, no sealing is required. Quartz is a non-porous engineered stone, making it highly resistant to staining and moisture whilst requiring only routine cleaning with a soft cloth and mild, non-abrasive cleaning products.
Oak Finishes
Oak Finishes
All exposed oak components are professionally finished in our workshop using a durable exterior-grade lacquer, providing long-lasting protection against everyday moisture in a bathroom environment. It does not require any additional oils, waxes, sealers or protective treatments following installation.
